The aircraft circle of life continues in Bangor. There have been a couple new American Airlines A319/A321s coming through in the past couple months and there are expected to be more coming soon. Some of the recent flights into Bangor have included retirement flights of Lufthansa and Iberia Airbus A340-300’s along with a Lufthansa Boeing 747-400’s and 737-300’s.
Iberia and Lufthansa are upgrading to newer, more modern twin engine aircraft that are much more fuel efficient than the fuel sucking quad engine A340 and 747’s. Among those being added currently for Lufthansa are the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and 787 Dreamliner along with a massive order placed in September for 59 Boeing 777-9X and Airbus A350-900 jets. Iberia is adding new Airbus A330 aircraft for long haul routes with a new business class cabin that includes lie flat seating.
Among the new aircraft coming through Bangor are Mexican carrier Interjet’s new Airbus A320’s on delivery from the factor along with low cost carrier Allegiant Air’s new to them Airbus A320. The Allegiant planes made an initial flight to Bangor with the announcement of the Bangor to Punta Gorda flight that started in the fall.
